sunday on monday

I think I have a bit of a problem; let me explain.

Hurts' fourth single, 'Sunday' from debut album Happiness, was released last Friday so, as you'd expect, it was all over the radio today. With no sense of control I ran home from work, downloaded the song and, as it stands, I have listened to it 24 consecutive times. Something's wrong with me. I don't think I've ever listened to a song this many times in a row without being even remotely tempted to untick 'repeat one'. My problem is that I don't know if I'll ever be able to stop listening to it - he says as 'Sunday' pops on for the 25th time.

This is pretty epic stuff from the charming Mancunians. Enjoy the video below and purchase the EP here, which comes with a kids-party-friendly remix from Seamus Haji and a lovely minimal mix (below) from Tom Flynn.

yes, more AMTRAC

If you read our little blog you may have noticed I've been giving a lot of love and borderline obsessiveness to AMTRAC recently. In fact, so much love I started writing this post before I'd listened to 'Where You Go' all the way through. It's just finished. Unsurprisingly, it was bloody good!

benny and danny

Benny Page and Danny Byrd: two of the most talked about drum and bass producers have only gone and done what? Yeah, they've only gone and remixed tracks from two of the most talked about female artists at the moment.
These. Are. Massive.

good evening or morning?

It's 10pm here in the UK so this is for everyone in the East. AMTRAC makes Kentucky mornings sound pretty funky.

This spooky little banger from BetatraXx just caught me before I was about to call it in for the night. Probably won't be able to sleep now. With what sounds suspiciously like a Ghosts N Stuff beat, a cheeky Justice The Party/Britney Spears Remix sample and some frantic harpsichordal synths you're either going to think 'Mafiosa' is a load of white noise or something pretty supernatural.

While we're sort of on the spooky theme, I've been meaning to post SymbolOne's adrenaline-soaked, Aerodynamic-esque 'Innamorati' for a couple of weeks now, so here it is.

Vaski works his magic again. Nuff' said.

super star slinger sunday special

I'm getting a bit too worked up about the big game today. No, I'm not talking about Super Bowl Sunday with thingy against thingy but Chelsea vs Liverpool - soon to be known as the day Fernando Torres was smothered to death by his own replica shirt. To try and chill myself out a bit I've been listening to some of Star Slinger's shoegazed and soul-sampled beats.

We have some pretty talented chums here at The Smoothest Gooch. Here's what some of the key figures have been up to recently.

Geologists have given me the all clear to post Monkers' new mix - drilled from the  depths of Harley Shute just three weeks ago. The BGS (British Geology Survey) have stated that "for optimum enjoyment of this compound (mix) it is recommended that the operator should aurally consume it during a Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training course".

Before blowing fresh chunks and tipping a bowl of Corn Flakes down his throat, Whitz likes to spend his Sunday mornings terrorising neighbours and making mixes.

As an energetic duo when in the DJ booth together, it made sense for two of our old Bath mates, collectively known as Kado, to roll a few fatties and lay down some chilled beats. It doesn't take a genius to imagine what they were up to when they produced 'Roll Out'. 'Collect Yourself' needs to be seriously spat over.

I don't want to fatten his head any more so all I'm going to say about the next track is that I really really hate it - hence why I'm posting it. In truth, I can't stop listening to it. Daaaayyyyyuuummmm!

If you were to sit down and have a little think about the state of Kentucky you might ponder horse racing? Or tobacco? Maybe swigging on a bottle of Jim Beam? Perhaps banjos? Obviously as an ignorant and somewhat greedy Englishman I think of Zinger Tower Burgers.

Recently I've been swapping my side order of beans for the more filling AMTRAC. In fact, chomping on AMTRAC's new EP Emergency is more like devouring a whole Big Daddy Box meal. I'm hungry now!
